Gov. Douglas Signs H.447, Vermont Range Protection BillOn Monday, May 22, Governor James Douglas signed H.447, the Range Protection Bill, into law before a full clubhouse at the Barre Fish & Game Club.
Governor James Douglas related the importance of H.447 and its impact in protecting ranges for the shooting and hunting communities of Vermont. Chairman Steve Adams and Senator Vince Illuzzi related the content and process involved in H.447 being passed by the legislature. The signing was attended by numerous representatives of the clubs, ranges and outdoors sporting organizations of Vermont. Representatives of the VT Fish & Wildlife Department, Vermont Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs, NRA-ILA and National Shooting Sports Foundation were present for this important event. Many legislators were present, as were VT Fish & Wildlife Dept. officials, as well as the media covering the event. See photo below
H.447 provides existing "sport shooting ranges" with protecting from nuisance noise lawsuits and the enactment of ordinances to reduce, limit or prohibit discharge of the ranges. H.447 passed the VT Senate 28-0 on roll call vote on May 3rd. The House voted to concur with the Senate amended version of the bill 126-7-16 on May 5th.
