Federation on U.S. Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor The Vermont Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs is deeply troubled about the failure of U.S. Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor to answer questions regarding the right of citizens to defend themselves and whether the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution affirms the right of individual citizens to keep and bear arms. The federation believes that every nominee to the federal bench should clearly uphold these two rights as fundamental constitutional protections. Therefore, unless Judge Sotomayor clearly states that she believes that honest citizens have a right to defend themselves and that the Second Amendment upholds a right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms, the Vermont Federation of Sportsmen's Club holds that Judge Sotomayor's appointment should not be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
