Federation President Roy
Marble made several presentations of an attractive framed
set of “Hunter Appreciation Day” postcards bearing the
“Special Cancellation.”
Governor Douglas issued a proclamation declaring September 23, 2005 as “Hunter Appreciation Day.” This action coupled nicely with the joint resolution of the Vermont Legislature decreeing the date as “Hunter Appreciation Day.” The legislature and governor acted to honor the substantial economic, social and environmental contributions of hunting and hunters. The Vermont Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs, Inc., successfully applied to the U.S. Postal Service for a Special Cancellation postmark to commemorate “Hunter Appreciation Day.” Officials from the U.S.P.S. were present, postmarking items with the “Hunter Appreciation Day” postmark, which featured two wild turkeys and a handsome whitetail buck. The “Hunter Appreciation Day” project was a joint effort by the Federation, the NRA-ILA and National Shooting Sports Foundation. A special event postcard was created for use in honoring the event and a way to obtain the “Special Cancellation” honoring Vermont’s “Hunter Appreciation Day” which was the first state event in the country.
