Barre Fish & Game Club Hosting NRA Handgun Instructor Course, Sat & Sun, May 22 & 23

NRA Training Counselor Steve Jeffrey will conduct a NRA Handgun Instructor Certification Course at the Barre Fish & Game Club with the assistance of NRA-certified instructors. This course is for those proficient with firearms who want to be NRA-certified handgun instructors.

This is a two day class, and students will have to attend both days. The fee for the course is $35.00 for those who have not previously successfully completed a NRA firearms instructor course. The fee for those who have successfully completed a NRA firearms instructor course is $20.00. Note the NRA Range Safety Officer course is not a NRA firearms instructor course.

For the first time, students will be able to enroll for one of these NRA courses by electronic registration at http://www.nrainstructors.org/searchcourse.aspx. Search for VT or Barre's zip code (05641). Those who want enroll by traditional method or have questions on the course can contact Steve at 802-535-7901.

The deadline for enrollment is May 6th! because of the lead time between the ordering and arrival of the class materials from NRA Headquarters.

The instructors have to pay for these materials in advance. That is why it is necessary to have students enrolled and committed to the the course in advance. We cannot have the instructors who are donating their time to run the class getting stuck with materials for which they have already paid because people back out of the class. Also, we want to avoid having any of the 25 seats in the class go vacant because people fail to appear without prior notice.

The instructors will provide all of the firearms, ammunition, targets and other materials necessary for the range portion of the course. Students will not bring firearms or ammunition into the classroom. The instructors are not flexible on this subject.

Steve wants to have 8:30 as the registration time on Saturday for those not having previously taken a NRA Firearms Instructor Course.

Students who have taken a NRA firearm instructor course will not have to arrive until Saturday afternoon at 2 pm. Sunday will be an 9 A.M. start for all students.

Those attending ought to plan on bringing a lunch, there is more than ample refrigerator space at the Barre Fish & Game Club. The instructors are conducting the course for free and only charging for the costs of the training materials. Check in other states and you will see the price of attending these NRA training courses is much higher. These courses usually cost hundreds of dollars.

The instructor advises that the student should bring:

  • The writing materials they want to use,

  • A 3 ring binder for the handout materials, and

  • Ear and eye protection for the range session.

ALL of the NRA Firearm Instructor Courses will require a couple of hours of range time. So, plan on spending a couple of hours on the range wearing appropriate clothing!

If you have attended a NRA Firearm Instructor Course (not the NRA Range Safety Course) please bring the Training Guide from that firearm instructor course, you will want it as a reference guide.

The instructor will provide all of the firearms, ammunition, targets and other materials necessary for the range portion of the course.
