Williston, VT- Women On Target EventThe North Country Sportsman’s Club (NCSC) hosted its first NRA Women On Target – Learn to Shoot Trap event on Saturday, July 14, 2007. The event was sponsored by a grant from the NRA Foundation, with funds raised by profits from Vermont's six Friends of the NRA Banquets, with grant administration by the Vermont Federation of Sportsmen’s Club. BJ’s Gun Shop of Williston also provided substantial and generous support for this event. A morning and afternoon session were scheduled with a limit of 25 women per session and a Lunch N Learn session was held for participants of both groups. A total of 43 women from all over Vermont participated in the event and they all had a fantastic time. Some of the comments I heard the women say were “What a blast this was”, “When are you having this again?”, “It was so nice to learn to shoot with other women”. As women on each of the fields perfected their handling of their shotguns you could hear the applause and cheers from their fellow shooters when they finally broke the clay targets. A few of the women complained about their shoulders being sore and they were going to sit out the rest of the session, but no sooner could I turn around and they were back on the line for another go at it. The Lunch N Learn session provided each participant with their lunch and drinks as they sat down and listened to a presentation on what types of birds are in Vermont as well tips on hunting birds in Vermont. Additionally a hunting dog demonstration put on by The Ugly Dog. NCSC is still getting a few calls about when we are going to hold this event again and most everyone was disappointed when we advised them it wouldn’t be until next year. One email in particular was from the Vermont’s Secretary of State, Deborah Markowitz, who was not able to make it to this event but wants to make reservations for next year's event already.
